Green Building Hawaii (GBH) is the leader in green and sustainable consulting across the Hawaiian Islands. In 2021, Green Building Hawaii became a division of Colorado-based EnergyLogic. Joining forces with EnergyLogic allows Green Building Hawaii to take its services and offerings to new levels. SUSTAINABLE LIVING INSTITUTE OF MAUI


The Sustainable Living Institute of Maui (SLIM) strives to be the premier institution for fostering sustainable, innovative methods of community development and management. The Institute draws students not only from Maui, but also from the entire state of Hawai’i and around the world to learn about and apply the sustainable sciences. These sciences are grounded in the watershed management system and draw inspiration from the Native Hawaiian land management system embodied in the ahupua’a. RESORT ENERGY VENTURES


Resort Energy Ventures (REV) was founded to assist hotels and other organizations located in resort regions of the globe meet their energy needs with responsible, sustainable, and economically viable solutions. Green Building Hawaii partners with REV to assist our clients in maximizing return on investment while meeting sustainability objectives for commercial scale renewable energy projects.  In resort locations, particularly islands, we have proven through our partnership that “green” approaches to energy supply and energy efficiency can radically reduce costs while meeting socially desired goals. Green Building Hawaii is proud to collaborate with Jeff Bedard, Principal of Resort Energy Ventures.  With over 20 years of professional experience, Jeff has led the development of over $200M of projects throughout the United States. Projects have included both energy and real estate projects including mixed use, sustainable urban infill communities with retail, residential, office, and hospitality components, and more recently, solar energy, wind, and cogeneration applications. Unico is a real estate investor and full-service operator, focused on office and multifamily assets in the western United States.  Green Building Hawaii partners with Unico for its LEED for Existing Buildings projects.  With a strong commitment to high performance green buildings, Unico designs, develops, and operates buildings with strategies that support environmental conservation while delivering financial returns that maximize asset value. Green Building Hawaii collaborates with Brett Phillips, the Director of Sustainability for Unico’s real estate portfolio, managing energy and environmental conservation projects across Unico’s 13.2 million square foot portfolio and overseeing Unico’s sustainability consulting services for third-party clients.  His responsibilities include executing company-wide sustainability strategies, setting high performance operations standards, implementing green building best practices, and promoting sustainability to industry and government leaders. www.unicoprop.com

  • 2007

    GBH serves as LEED consultant for Montessori School of Maui, first LEED-NC project on Maui.

  • 2008

    GBH Founding Principal John Bendon receives Pacific Business News’ 40 Under 40 award. GBH rates and certifies first LEED home in the state.

  • 2009

    Bendon becomes vice-chair of USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council), Hawai‘i Chapter.

  • 2010

    GBH co-creates University of Hawai‘i Maui College’s first sustainability training program.

  • 2011

    GBH completes green rating for Armstrong Builders’ Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Kumuhau project. Project earns Green Builder magazine’s Green Home of the Year award.

  • 2012

    GBH offers extensive energy efficiency and sustainability training locally, nationally and internationally. Clients and partners include all Hawai‘i Counties, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, University of Hawai‘i, University of Denver and various corporate entities.

  • 2013

    GBH facilitates LEED certification for Maui Economic Development Board building, the first LEED-EBOM office building on Maui.

  • 2014

    GBH client Hyatt Regency Ka‘anapali Maui becomes first LEED-EBOM resort in the state and fourth LEED-EBOM resort in the world.

  • 2015

    Bendon co-authors a chapter in Thinking Like an Island: Navigating a Sustainable Future in Hawaii.

  • 2016

    GBH completes extensive energy auditing on all Kamehameha Schools campuses.

  • 2017

    GBH completes consulting work on various nonprofit affordable housing projects, including Keauhou Lane (LEED Multifamily Midrise Platinum) and Kunia Villages (the first and only Enterprise Green Community certification in the State).

  • 2021
