    The Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative calls for dramatic increases in energy efficiency in upcoming years. Jump into the exciting, fast growing field of improved energy performance and residential energy audits. This class will provide participants with training in energy efficiency and building science and will prepare them to take the nationally recognized RESNET Home Energy Survey Professional test. Participants will gain hands on experience using state of the art building performance equipment and will leave with an understanding of appropriate technologies and strategies for improved energy performance in Hawaii. Topics include: building envelope features and performance, mechanical equipment types, renewable energy uses, appliance and lighting characteristics, etc. This course is appropriate for contractors, architects, inspectors, or anyone looking to pursue a career in the emerging energy efficiency industry in Hawaii.

    Taught by Hawaii’s leading trainers in efficiency, conservation and behavior change, this two day course is tailored for those who work in a sector of the building or energy fields, but are new to the full spectrum of energy auditing. Participants will:

    -learn how to do a basic walk through assessment of residential and commercial buildings;

    -identify low cost/no cost ‘low hanging fruit’ conservation and efficiency opportunities in the areas of behavior, plug loads, lighting, HVAC, and thermal comfort; and

    -merge classroom training with guided on-site tours of a residential development under construction and a fully operational commercial building.
