John Bendon is a leader in Hawaii in the fields of green building and energy efficiency. Growing up on Maui, John has a passion for the people and environment of Hawaii and is proud to work in a field that provides a positive impact every day. John and Green Building Hawaii have successfully accomplished a number of notable firsts including LEED consulting for Hawaii’s first LEED EBOM Resort (Hyatt Regency Maui), Maui’s first LEED NC building, and Hawaii’s first LEED Homes project. John is proud to be able to transfer his knowledge and expertise to the classroom and has taught green building classes to a wide range of audiences across Hawaii, the U.S. mainland, and internationally. John holds a Master’s Degree in Real Estate and Construction Management from the University of Denver. He is a LEED Accredited Professional with a specialty in LEED Homes, Certified Energy Rater under RESNET, and a Certified Energy Manager (CEM). John previously served as the Vice Chair of the US Green Building Council – Hawaii Chapter and currently sits on the Maui Workforce Investment Board, and the Board of Directors for Carden Academy of Maui. Along with his work, John loves spending time with his wife and two boys and enjoying all the water sports Hawaii has to offer.
Peter Stone conducts home inspections and energy and building performance testing for Green Building Hawaii clients. Peter has inspected and conducted performance testing on over 200 homes for the Energy Star New Homes program for many of the major developers on Oahu. He has also sized and supervised the installation of many solar Photovoltaic systems over the last two years.Peter Stone is a Hawaii born building energy efficiency consultant who has a deep commitment to helping Hawaii reach the very ambitious goals set by the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative. Peter is a certified Home Energy Rater (HERS), a LEED-Homes Green Rater and a certified Level 1 Thermographer specializing in Buildings and Roofs. Peter comes from a broad business background and understands that in addition to a desire to build in a more “green” and sustainable manner, decisions made on a project must make economic sense. His many years running small businesses combined with his recent years’ experience as a green building consultant and energy rater give him a unique perspective on the challenges builders face in Hawaii towards achieving these goals.
Austin is our go to Energy Auditor for Green Building Hawaii projects. Austin is also a part-time student at the University of Hawaii-Maui College (UHMC) Sustainable Construction Technologies program, with a focus on energy efficiency and production. Austin successfully completed the Home Energy Survey Professional (HESP) training through the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui’s (SLIM) program with the Maui Smart Grid Project. As a result of his training, he is a RESNET® certified professional as well as recently receiving his LEED GA accreditation. He has also served as an intern for MECO’s Renewable Energy Services Department and acquired valuable knowledge about the process of submitting renewable energy contracts to MECO. Every fall Austin also has the opportunity to work with the HTDC/Innovate Program via SLIM as an instructor and coordinator for the manufacturing energy auditing internship program, through which he teaches students to audit manufacturing companies and develop recommendations to reduce energy use in local manufacturing business. Now that he is working for Green Building Hawaii, he not only has the training and credentials needed to work as an energy auditor, but also has the experience and expertise of Green Building Hawaii’s team working alongside him. Austin offers home energy surveys and commercial energy audits aimed at helping clients reduce energy usage and informing them of potential incentives and rebates to help save them money.

Stan Walerczyk is principal of Lighting Wizards, an energy efficiency consulting firm on Maui. His 24 years lighting experience includes distribution, maintenance, retrofit contracting, 3rd party review, consulting, design, luminaire design, policy making and research. Green Building Hawaii partners with Lighting Wizards to deliver best-in-class lighting expertise on residential and commercial energy efficiency projects. Stan has been assisting on DOE research on spectrally enhanced lighting. He has written over 50 white papers and magazine articles and presented over 800 seminars. He is a Certified Lighting Energy Professional by the Association of Energy Engineers and is Lighting Certified by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions.
